A binocular vision assessment is an important tool for eye care professionals to use when diagnosing and treating binocular vision disorders. The assessment tests a person’s ability to converge their eyes and accommodate them. These skills are necessary for tasks such as reading, writing, and driving. Eye strain is often a result of problems with convergence or accommodation. Symptoms of eye strain include headaches, fatigue, and blurry vision. A binocular vision assessment can help identify the source of the problem and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

We check the eye alignment for any deviations that may cause discomfort in vision. It allows us to detect any squint (heterotropia) or dissociation of eyes when not focusing (heterophoria).
To allow ourselves to keep our vision single when reading or viewing our phones, we use our ability to converge. We assess that ability to ensure you do not experience headaches or double vision.
When using our eyes to look at near objects and keeping them clear. We focus our eyes with our internal lenses which is known as accommodation. We will assess this to ensure you keep near objects clear.
We unconsciously depend on your depth perception (3D vision) when moving around especially during sports or walking down the stairs. An impaired depth perception may cause a person to lose balance easily.
